To create the tiered type of cake pictured you will need to bake each half of each cake separately then stick them together before decorating and tie ring.  All in all, this kind of decoration is time consuming and a little fiddly to begin with.  But with such a beautiful shaped cake to work with, you will have an incentive to get creative and add your own personal delicate touches to the finished cakes.

The Wilton cake pans are aluminum as usual, which means they transfer the heat very well to the batter inside.  You will need to read the instructions carefully in order to not over-fill the pans.  Also with any shaped pan such as this, consider the speed at which thinner extremities (such as the curved corners) will cook compared to the much more dense core.  Yes, they may take a little practice to get exactly right, but the results can be simply spectacular.

Using just one pillow cake can have a less formal, and romantic feel.  Whilst all 3 might be perfect for a wedding or engagement party, try just one large pillow cake for a baby shower, or the smallest for an intimate anniversary dinner with your partner.  As with many of the less obviously novelty type shaped cake pans from Wilton, the pillow cake pan set has seemingly endless possibilities!
